Since its inauguration in the summer of 2006, Rawabet Art Space has had an indelible impact on the renaissance of the Egyptian theater, particularly on its independent and alternative movements. What was once a rundown warehouse, was transformed into a space for expression throughout the past fifteen years. Countless Egyptian artists and cultural operators have gifted their time, effort, and money to establish and maintain this space.
Since 2021, Orient Productions has been managing Rawabet Art Space as part of our network of spaces and projects. This includes Studio Emad Eddin (SEE), a rehearsal and training space; the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF), an annual international 3 week festival; the Arab Arts Focus (AAF), a showcase spotlighting Arab works on a global level; Temple Independent Theatre Company, staging contemporary theatre productions across the world’s most important stages and festivals; and Maktabi – Creative Office Spaces providing long-term rentals to the creative sector.
As a dedicated theater venue for the independent performing arts scene in Cairo, Rawabet Arts Space schedules a monthly program of theater plays, music concerts, dance performances, improv shows, and stand-up comedy acts.
